Sleep Paralysis!!!
Have you ever felt like you are being pressed down while asleep.
You know those you are awake kinda sleep but you can’t speak up or move around and you feel an entity is in the room with you obviously trying to harm you.
Eeeh you are permitted to pretend but as for Chimnaza mba, ain’t going to pretend, I will say the truth and nothing but the truth. Infact I used to think it’s a demon that has creeped into my room trying to kill me from my sleep.
Most times it’s preceded by a bad dream, I will be struggling to shout Jesus from dream to real life… I can actually say Jesus in my mind but saying it out is the problem for eeerm that orientation of power in the name of Jesus when you speak it out is still intact.
For me, it feels like my life flashing through my eyes and I will be scared. When I wake up, serious prayer ensues before I am calm then I will have issue of trying to sleep back…. see if you laugh at me eeh.
Well probably one of the reasons I find it difficult to sleep without room light switched on. Please don’t ask me what my utility bills are like for someone modified in that area. I think I started learning how to sleep without light when a friend took it as a duty to send effect of lights switched on while sleeping after I complained of difficulty with sleeping. Still with the articles sent to me, I will sleep with light switched on at intervals but dimmed light.
It wasn’t until a year back or so when I resorted to finding lasting solution to this that I got to know about sleep paralysis .
See if you ask me, how come I didn’t know all along…. we will be chopping raw beef but I would say, I never saw it as an issue and I knew the periods or seasons it happens.
Sleep Paralysis is the feeling of being conscious while unable to move usually occurring when an individual passes between stages of wakefulness and sleep. During these transitions, one may be unable to move or speak for a few seconds up to a few minutes. Some may also feel pressure or a sense of choking which eeeh you thinking that one spirit is in the room trying to take you yonder.
See it’s entirely a medical issue not spiritual or mental wahala though the hallucination that comes with it could be viewed from the mental aspect. Yet again it’s a medical something and nothing to worry about for it’s transient unless experienced frequently than necessary.
Sleep paralysis usually occurs at one of two times. It could occur while falling asleep, and it’s called hypnagogic or predormital sleep paralysis or could happen while waking up, it’s called hypnopompic or postdormital sleep paralysis.
Everyone or anyone can have sleep paralysis. Whether teenager, adult, granny though I feel grannies might have complication from this if they experience this. It’s been recorded that it’s first noticed during teen years and it could run in families.
Like I mentioned earlier, I know my sleep paralysis season or period and it’s usually any period my sleep schedule changes, skipping sleep time, lack of sleep, stressed out periods…. bam you will find me struggling to shout Jesus, struggling to wake up.
There are other factors which include
- Mental conditions such as stress or bipolar disorder
- Sleeping on the back: Hey this is one sleeping position I don’t try consciously or unconsciously if not I will have season 1 episode 5 of bad dreams. I don’t think I am the only one like this, there has to be someone biko.
- Other sleep problems such as narcolepsy or nighttime leg cramps
- Use of certain medications, such as those for ADHD
- Substance abuse.
Sleep paralysis isn’t much of a medical issue and doesn’t really require treatment except where it occurs frequently and in such situation, visit your Gp and be open about it for you could be referred to a counsellor or talked to about modifying sleeping habit- getting upto six to eight hours of sleep daily .
- Antidepressant medications could be prescribed to regulate the circadian .
- Mental conditions contributing to sleep paralysis could be treated as well.
- Other sleeping disorders could be treated if found present.
- Certain medications responsible for sleep paralysis might be changed and substance abuse therapies are included.
Please for emphasis sake, it’s not a spiritual or village members pursuing one something so no need to embark on spiritual journey or something.
I found that this was very useful for my sleep paralysis and I am very thankful for you and I love that you wrote it
Glad you found it useful and happy to help anytime.
Lol:) I really can’t stop myself from laughing.
And no, I’m not laughing at you lol
I learnt of sleep paralysis a while back because I was always having it, so I searched for possible explanations when it started coming frequently than before. Gosh, I hate it
I know what it is now, but I still don’t believe ooo… I’m an African oo, as far I’m concerned it’s spiritual. Why does or do they go away when you try to call Jesus?
Not funny oo
Hahahaha Africans and spirits. Well I can totally relate too not just because I am African but because I have experienced them too. However, it’s not spirit related, it’s a medical related issue and I am glad you laughed while reading this.
Cheers!!!
I hear you oo 🙂
I feel it is a little of both because I have taken medication and still cannot sleep. Your are right stress and bipolar plays an important part of it.
Oh sorry to hear this.
Have you visited your Gp to discuss this? While at it, maybe you can adjust your sleeping patterns and reduce stress .
Sending ❤ your way.
