With all eyes on Nigerian tailors and their booming fashion scene, it’s no surprise people are Googling, “Who’s the best tailor in Nigeria this year?” Because let’s be honest—nobody wants to hand over their precious fabric to someone who’ll sew like “Obioma” (no shade if you’re not Nigerian… but you get it).
Lately, it feels like there’s a new designer or should we say Nigerian tailor popping up every other day—and honestly? We love to see it. It’s giving creativity, it’s giving boldness, and it’s making weddings, owambes, and every other function feel like fashion week. So, from one girl to another, I’ve put together this list so you can focus on saving for the slay—because, let’s face it, good things hardly come cheap.
Since late last year till now, I’ve been living vicariously through wedding guests and Instagram feeds. From the drip to the slay to the 2am small chops queue (yes, with the gelè still intact), Nigerian tailors have made one thing clear: They did not come to play—they came to pepper! And pepper they have, especially atarodo-level hot! If fashion were a sport, Nigerian tailors would be winning gold, silver, and asoebi.
This post is not just gist — it’s a full-blown exposé of the baddest in the game: who sewed what, whose stitch have nearly broken the internet, and why every guest at the events look like a walking editorial spread. I’m starting with designers whose finishing touches have snatched my soul — respectfully so might be biased alittle. Nonetheless, Nigerian tailors are who they think they are and yes this isn’t another post— just vibes and personal faves. But best believe every name on this list has caused at least one social media frenzy.
Seyi Vodi
Seyi Adekunle, popularly known as Seyi Vodi is one Nigerian Tailot that went into fashion after a failed bank test, leading him to pursue his passion full-time. He founded Vodi Tailors, which has become one of Nigeria’s leading menswear brands. He is known for impeccable tailoring and attention to detail, Seyi Vodi has dressed notable figures, including top executives and celebrities, solidifying its reputation in the fashion industry. Whenever I come across his work, I can tell before looking at description to see who the tailor is.
Mai Atafo
Mai Atafo, with his background in marketing, launched Mai Atafo Inspired, a brand synonymous with elegance and sophistication. His label gained prominence with the introduction of “Weddings by Mai,” catering to bespoke bridal and formal wear. Atafo’s designs have been worn by celebrities like Omowunmi Akinnifesi and Banky W, showcasing his ability to blend classic styles with modern trends.
If you have been here from the inception, you would be expecting Mai Atafo to be mentioned as one of the Nigerian tailors best in the game. I am one loyal fan from afar, gathering my funds together because my wardrobe does need an outfit from him.
Ugo Mozie
Ugo Mozie launched his first fashion line at the age of 18, quickly making waves in the industry. His designs, characterized by a fusion of classic tailoring and contemporary aesthetics, have been worn by stars like Justin Bieber, Travis Scott, and Beyoncé. Mozie’s influence extends beyond fashion, as he continues to shape global perceptions of African style. Imagine making waves when I was probably in my second year of Uni, jumping chairs in large lecture halls so that I can get a good position where I would hear the lecturer well and Ugo Mozie was out there counting the money.
Prudential AtelierPrudential Atelier is the brainchild of Prudent Gabriel, a Nigerian tailor whose journey from humble beginnings to fashion prominence is both inspiring and remarkable. Born on August 12, 1996, to a taxi driver father and a mother who was a farmer and occasional Nigerian tailor, Prudent faced significant financial challenges growing up in Ajah, Lagos State. Despite these hardships, she nurtured a passion for fashion, influenced by her mother’s tailoring activities.
Upon completing secondary school, Prudent couldn’t afford to take the JAMB examination, which is required for university admission in Nigeria. She worked various jobs, including farming and waitressing, to support herself. Her foray into fashion began when a local Nigerian tailor ruined her clothes, prompting her to learn the craft herself. Through self-teaching, using online resources and practicing with fabrics, she honed her skills and started creating her own designs.
In 2019, Prudent launched Prudential Atelier from her small room in Ajah. Her breakthrough came with her ready-to-wear dresses, which gained popularity on social media for their fit and style. This success led to the establishment of Prudential Fashion Academy in 2020, through which she has trained over 150 fashion designers. Her brand is known for its intricate designs, particularly in bridal and wedding guest attire, and has been featured in various fashion platforms.
Prudent’s work has earned her several accolades, including the Young Entrepreneur of the Year (Lagos State, 2022), Fashion Designer of the Year (Nigeria Fashion Awards, 2023), and inclusion in Forbes Africa’s Top 30 Under 30 Entrepreneurs in 2024. She continues to inspire many with her dedication to fashion and her commitment to mentoring aspiring designers through her academy.
Now you maybe wondering why I shared this? Well, to say, she understands the need to handle customer’s fabrics well as she’s been a victim herself that turned it to a different outcome. I genuinely like her work and have seen behind the scene of some of her works. She sure is one Nigerian tailor/ designer I would recommend anyway and would like to be in her one of her pieces someday.

Amy Aghomi
She is a Nigerian tailor renowned for her ability to blend traditional African aesthetics with modern sophistication. As the founder and creative director of the luxury fashion brand “AMY AGHOMI,” she has established herself as a prominent figure in the African fashion industry.
Her designs have graced runways, red carpets, weddings, award shows, and movie premieres, showcasing her commitment to celebrating African heritage with a contemporary touch. In her recent collection, “Water to Wine,” Aghomi explores themes of growth and resilience, aiming to capture the essence of transformation through fashion.
Under her leadership, the AMY AGHOMI brand has expanded its presence, with outlets in Lagos State and Delta State, reflecting her influence and impact in the fashion world. However, it’s important to note that some clients have reported negative experiences with the brand, citing issues with customer service and product quality. For instance, a bride named Ifunaya expressed dissatisfaction with a dress made by Amy Aghomi, highlighting concerns about the final product and the service received.
My takeaway from this particular Nigerian tailor and her dissatisfied clients is book ahead and go for fitting ahead so you can highlight your concerns to her on time. I am sure no one in their right mind would want to tarnish their effort. Despite these criticisms, Amy Aghomi continues to be recognized for her contributions to fashion, particularly in celebrating African heritage through her designs and her designs are beautiful if we are being sincere.
So next time you get an invite and hear ‘asoebi is out,’ you know who to stalk on Instagram or save for in your fashion jar. These designers or Nigerian tailors like a boomer would say? They didn’t come to sew, they came to show.
