Victoria James popularly known as Veekee James is a Nigerian Fashion Designer who has dominated the Nigerian Fashion Industry and is gradually but progressively making her mark on the world’s fashion stage. Born and brought up in Ajegunle of Nigeria, Veekee has done so well for herself, breaking the status quo and standing out as a fashion brand that is worthy of accolades.
After losing a parent at the age of five, Veekee was determined to change her background and not be defined by it, as she as she hustled through different career paths, until she stumbled into fashion. On a pod session with Taymesan Emmanuel on ‘Tea with Tay Podcast’, she says she started her fashion business in her mother’s parlor. Veekee also said she is self-taught and has never been to any fashion school or any training in fashion.
She has since turned her fashion brand around and taken it to the world’s stage as she has designed several ‘jaw-dropping’ and award winning outfits. The Veekee James fashion brand has evolved into three other categories, Veekee James Official, that caters to brides and creates other bespoke female outfits, ‘Veekee James Man’, that caters for the masculine gender and ‘Shop Erikan’, the ready-to-wear brand.
In 2022, the Veekee James brand won best dressed at the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Award, with a bespoke outfit on the trail-blazing actress, Osas Ighodaro. Since then, her brand has always stood out at the AMVCAs. At the last AMVCA held on the 11th of May 2024, she catered to 5 Nigerian celebrities across the movie and entertainment industry, with each outfit making a fashion statement.
Recently featured on CNN African Voices, Veekee James talks about her brand, where she started from and how far she has come. This feature goes to re-iterate what a fashion force she is not just in Nigeria but beyond Nigeria.
Veekee James is happily married to her husband, Femi Atere and is set to release a short film where she narrates her life’s story and how she has grown her fashion brand.
